Be On the Cutting Edge — Even Underwater
Military operators, members of specialized law enforcement units, and many first responders may need to perform tasks in the air, on land — and underwater. Having the right equipment can be the difference between success and failure or even life and death. The key is finding the correct tool for making your work efficient and safe.
Construction and cutting work can be dangerous, but they are even more dangerous underwater.
According to Osen-Hunter Group Senior Support Manager Larry Griffiths, “Not only is visibility a problem but you also have to consider the pressure difference. The number-one thing that kills divers is cutting into pressurized pipe and causing an explosion. A similar explosion on land would be considered minor, but underwater, its effects are intensified because of the pressure. Even a light underwater explosion can severely hurt or kill a diver.”
Osen-Hunter’s Underwater Cutting Unit (UCU) minimizes danger and increases the efficiency of underwater cutting operations. Most underwater cutting systems rely on large, cumbersome surface equipment and short cutting rods that must be changed frequently during a job. Our UCU brings together all the components — power, oxygen, and long exothermic cutting cables — so you can cut longer and without stops to complete your job faster.
As Larry explains, the UCU delivers 100% oxygen to the cutting tool. When the diver is ready to begin the cutting project, he or she notifies the surface crew to switch on the electricity. Once the tool is ignited, the power is switched off, but as long as the oxygen continues to flow, the cutting cable continues to burn.
“This technology increases the efficiency and safety of the tool and is a primary reason the U.S. Navy has been using it for more than 20 years,” says Larry.
The unit is simple to set up and use and comes in a compact case that lets you quickly get in, get the job done, and get out. It comes with 100 feet of cutting cable, but it can be customized with additional cable to meet project requirements. And its versatility allows you to use it on land as well as underwater.
We at Osen-Hunter always strive to provide the safest, most efficient, and best value tools for any type of job. The UCU epitomizes that standard, and we’re proud that we can offer this 21st-century technology to those whose jobs can benefit from it.
