What the Affordable Care Act Means to You?
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been in effect for a couple of years, and for Osen-Hunter employees, it might not seem like a lot has changed. However, the ACA has provisions in it that are designed to protect your access to essential health care, regardless of where you get your insurance. What is it doing for you?
Many Osen-Hunter employees enjoy employer-provided medical health insurance. With the ACA in place, qualified health insurance plans must include the following essential benefits:
- Outpatient services
- Emergency services
- Hospitalization
- Maternity and baby care
- Mental health and substance abuse treatment
- Prescription drugs
- Rehab and habilitative services, such as those that help people recover from an accident or injury and those that help people with developmental issues.
- Lab tests
- Preventive and wellness services, and those that help people manage chronic conditions. This includes chiropractic care.
- Child dental and vision services
Other benefits under the ACA include:
- More understandable explanations of insurance coverage
- No limits on total annual or lifetime benefits, as well as guaranteed acceptance with no exclusions for pre-existing conditions
- Premiums won’t vary with health or gender
- Free preventative care
- Many more benefits, rights, and protections will apply to you and your health insurance plan. Certain exclusions apply to health plans with grandfathered status.
Whether you are covered by employer insurance or enrolled through a different health insurance plan, it’s important that you review your coverage, know about changes to your coverage, and be aware of and verify any changes to your premiums.
Osen-Hunter is proud of the insurance offerings we offer our employees, but we recommend you research your options. You can find more information about the ACA and coverage at https://www.healthcare.gov/.
