Osen-Hunter Instructor Smokes Competitors at 2-Gun Competition

Gun144.5 seconds — That was the time it took Brett Hansen to navigate his way through a 6-stage rifle and pistol course at Camp Dyer, Afghanistan, which featured shoot and no-shoot targets, various obstacles and barriers, and six stages over the course of two days.

Brett joined the 2-day competition, hosted by Adams Arms, upon the invitation of active duty friends. He proceeded to beat around 80 other competitors in a landslide win.

However, as a government contractor, Brett was ineligable to claim the winner’s title for himself, and the prize of $4,500 in guns and sponsorship for future competitions went instead to his friend James, who took second place with a time 12.8 seconds slower. Despite this, Brett says that it was worth it for the opportunity to enjoy a fun experience with friends — and for the free ammo.

Brett was taught how to shoot by his father, Scott, in his home state of Alaska when he was only five years old. “Since then it has been a hobby of mine, and I was fortunate enough to turn it into a part of my profession,” he says. He became a sniper in the Army, and moved on to be a Designated Defensive Marksman for the Department of State before being hired by Osen-Hunter as an instructor — a position in which he has honed his skills.

Brett’s time with Osen-Hunter has allowed him to continue his training and maintain his top-skills. “Osen-Hunter offers a great benefits program which has allowed me to attend schools such as Direct Action Resource Center. I hope to attend the Master Breacher course, too,” he says. “I’ve also had the opportunity to attend training at Mid-South Institute of Self Defense Shooting in Mississippi as a student and associate instructor as well.”

Brett encourages focus on the fundamentals and regularly working on range conditioning in order to maintain skills. “Like I always say, ‘The key to success … is to succeed!'” he jokes.

When asked for his advice to his fellow operators, Brett imparts this wisdom: “No matter what you do in life, look cool doing it! And it clearly doesn’t pay to be a winner … it pays $4,500 in prizes to be number two.”

Congratulations to Brett and to all the participants of the Adams Arms 2-gun competition!
